Electricity in Nepal

In Nepal, the typical AC voltage ranges from 220 to 240 V with a 50 Hz frequency. The three- or two-holed sockets of the Nepalese standard electrical outlet support cylindrical two- and three-pin plugs. Here, flat plug sockets are not the norm. However, it is also possible to find modified outlets that are compatible with flat-pin plugs like those used in the US and Canada. If you want to use electrical products like a hair dryer or shaver, you might need a portable plug adapter and/or voltage converter. Given the prevalence of voltage fluctuations, it is advisable to purchase a universal voltage converter/adapter with an integrated fuse to protect your equipment. If you fail to pack it, you may simply get it in Kathmandu and other big towns.

Finding and utilising electricity, however, may be difficult and expensive when on a journey. Depending on where you are hiking, you should expect to spend anywhere between NRs. 100 and 1,000 at several teahouses to charge your electronics.
