Details

Over the last couple of decades Kathmandu has been reasonably quick to embrace modernity. However the home of the Newars still exhibits richness of cultural and architectural marvels, observes the diversity of traditional celebrations, and serves the spicy delicacy of the local cuisine. Kathmandu, in the midst of modernity, still lives History.

Even though a day tour of Kathmandu might not be enough to provide you the opportunity to soak up everything it has to offer, what it certainly does is provide a teaser of this urbanised capital city of Nepal which alone homes seven UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

The day tour of Kathmandu that Access Nepal arranges serves you an offbeat mix of the bustling city life and the peaceful gongs of the temple bells, the chaos of the city centre and the geometric perfection of the ancient palaces, temples, monasteries and squares, the stray dogs circling around pile of garbage and the monkeys yanking food from the passersby in temple and monastery premises, and the beggars and the vendors.

Day Tour Description:

Your day tour will be facilitated by our English speaking tour guide and we will be using a comfortable private vehicle for the day. We will start by driving to Pashupatinath temple to start the tour. The existence of this Shivatemple build in Nepalese Pagoda architecture is in existence from as early as 400 AD and is highly revered by the Hindus. Pashupatinath temple has Hindu crematory sites in its proximity by the Bagmati River.

We will next visit Bouddhanath Stupa. The mystic sounds of Buddhist mantra and hymns played in the adjacent shops provide the perfect background score for your tranquil stroll around the Stupa premises. We will have our lunch in Bouddhanth in one of the rooftop restaurant with the imposing view of the majestic Stupa

After lunch, we will drive to Swayambhunath which is popular to foreign tourists as Monkey Temple for the troop of monkeys (which are considered as holy) that take shelter in its premises. After we ascend long (and tiring for some) steep stone-stairs, we will reach the magnificent Buddhist Stupa.  In that Swayambhunath is located at the highest point of the valley, we can enjoy a wide angle view of Kathmandu.

After spending some quality time around the peaceful Stupa, we will head to Kathmandu Durbar Square which used to be the home of the royals of Kathmandu. Around the square are various palaces exhibiting rich Pagoda architecture as well as a palace that is built in Weser Renaissance architecture. Durbar Square also homes a museum which displays history and tradition of Nepal from early times. We will also walk along the Freak Streetwhich used to be a Hippy hub during the 80s before ending the day tour.

What to Bring for the Day:

During spring and autumn months, you can simply set with your camera, t- shirt, pullover, and mineral water in your bag.

You can dress yourself casually in shirt, -shirt, common pant, or jeans/short pant etc. Good trainers are recommended rather than sandals though.
